Students will be asked to research modern and historic chess sets and how forms of chess pieces relate to history, hierarchy, and the game in general. The precedent study will inform the design for a new chess set. The outcome will be judged on the unique elegance and formal language developed within the

context of the history of the chessboard and the game pieces.
